On new single “The Outside,” Washington, D.C. rapper Joey Green continues to impress with his technical ability, lines delivered with a hypnotic ease—a fluidity compounded by his monotone voice (one of the rare examples, like late legend Guru, where the unwavering quality of his voice will probably turn some off and draw others further in). Green’s rapping invites repeat listens, meandering and abstract, occasionally autobiographical and packed with unusual phrasings and images to spice up familiar concepts.
