With the exception of Action Bronson’s Mr. Wonderful, the bulk of hip-hop releases so far this year have favored a darker, gritter sound. But what made Bronson’s album stand out is that it reminded us how equally powerful hip-hop can be when it’s fun.
It’s in this realm that Australian rapper Baro’s “Bears” resides. The track features breezy, laid back production perfect for the 18-year-old’s verses to float over before transitioning to the undeniable hook. It’s warm but still sharp—an extremely compelling offering from the young rapper.
