Yesterday, Purity Ring shared via Facebook a link to Canadian music festival posters. It was not, however, a goodhearted endorsement of their home country’s summer celebrations. The experiment above (which was based on this BBC article regarding UK music festival posters) is, according to Purity Ring, “partial but extremely relevant to the landscape of the music industry,” showing a very male-dominated climate.
To see if the same applies to U.S. music festivals, we decided to do a little Photoshopping of our own. Here’s what the posters for some of the most popular American music festivals look like with the male acts removed:
