"I Hate My Biggest Songs": A$AP Rocky on His New Album and Moving Forward

None

With the death of A$AP Yams still hanging heavy over hip-hop’s head, the A$AP Mob has been trying to regain some sense of normalcy. A tough task for anyone, but it gets tougher when a new album is on the way and the world expects a press junket. This is A$AP Rocky’s current conundrum: speaking to the press is probably the last thing he wants to do right now, and yet here we are. All said, he seems to be holding it together well, judging by this cover story he just did for Complex.

Among the article’s revelations: he’s working with Danger Mouse, continuing to explore the fashion world with a new denim line, and listening to The Doors. Check some choice quotes below, and read the full story (via Complex) here.

 On working with Yams:

Everything [with Yams] was collaborative. All decisions were 50-50. I would hear him out, and he would hear me out.

 On his previous releases:

I’ve got that cliché thing where I hate my biggest songs.

 On police in America:

I think people with a badge—or not—are gonna stop abusing authority across the world, and learn to appreciate one another. For real. All they need is weed, some love, some good sex, some good-ass music.

 On the media circus:

I’m just trying to, I don’t know, distance this space between me and social media. Me and…just media in general. When you live that life of paparazzi, media, social media, when shit hits the fan, they’re gonna be the same people that destroy you.

 On the healing process:

When Yams died, psychedelic music healed me. Stuff like the The Mysterians, “96 Tears.” That’s all the stuff I love. I love classic rock. Take the Doors—those organs.
