Conor O’Brien’s Villagers project has announced a third album. Darling Arithmetic will be released on April 13 on Domino. O’Brien recorded the album in his home town of Malahide, Ireland, and he’s released a video for the album opener “Courage” for the occasion.
“Courage” and its video are fragile, ethereal and exquisite. The feather-light touch inherent to Villagers’ songwriting finds a home in O’Brien’s voice, and the video, in turn, never leaves the chair in which he sits. The Irish songwriter has an acoustic guitar, a new beard, and a far-off look in his eye, deep in thought amidst a growing swell of synths and bass.
