Regular readers of my column 5 On It (precious few of you though there may be) will recognize the name pizza boy. as a Saturday staple, one of the more unique voices from almost a year’s worth of under-the-radar rap findings. Ruthlessly self-aware and self-deprecating, clever, and consistently improving as a rapper (or, more specifically, the sort of rapper he aims to become), pizza boy. is a product of the Internet age and a commentator on its benefits and negatives—mostly the latter.
To usher in his pizza boy.’s first music video, “delicious cheesesticks. (maroney.),” it seems best to let the artist set the stage in his own words:
“i’m pizza boy., a 21-year-old that was born in Peoria, Illinois. i was created in San Diego, California. i’m living in Belleville, Illinois.
i’m a recent art school graduate. more importantly, i’m a rapper. even more importantly, i’m trying to reach a curious kind of stature with rap, but i am currently devoid of the management and funding required to do this. so it goes.
this is my first ever solo music video, in spite, and in warm consideration, of what all was just stated. i wanted this video to display how absence of glamour and surplus of absurdity often meet to form a facet of my existence.
