Anderson Paak’s Venice was one of 2014’s overlooked gems, a sprawling, futuristic R&B ode to the so-called “slum by the sea.” It’s a fitting an encapsulation of Los Angeles and its many eccentricities that still managed to feel personal thanks to Paak’s singular voice and omnivorous taste in modern sounds.
House-infused standout “Luh You” gets a fittingly whimsical video featuring Paak, his son, and a crew of skilled dancers letting loose in a studio. It’s as fun and light as the song itself, an ode to the sort of intense, entrancing romances Los Angeles catalyzes. A perfect follow up to Valentine’s Day.
