Florence & The Machine is coming back with a vengeance. The first single (“What Kind of Man”) off their upcoming album (How Big How Blue How Beautiful) is a roaring, vicious indictment of a despicable brand of man, and they’ve enlisted none other than production mastermind Nico Jaar for the remix.
Nico being Nico, his twist is the farthest thing from mild. This is a twelve-minute, virtuosic work spanning both ends of the sonic spectrum—Florence’s vocals are shredded and distorted, disappeared then reassembled and spread like a hailstorm across the thumping drum and bass. What starts as a Darkside reminiscence quickly spirals and expands into a dance club classic.
