Sydney-based producer/vocalist BUOY’s “Took Me Up” feels at once entirely of its time and subtly separate from similar touchstones. It’s the sort of song that could readily draw the kinds of comparisons to FKA Twigs or Banks that would cheapen its singular merit. It seems to meander from idea to idea before revealing that its end mirrors its beginning in a satisfying climax that affords purpose to the pretty wandering that preceded it. An impressive first impression from a multi-talented artist.
