Well, Novelist is celebrating his birthday by releasing his debut 1 Sec EP, a collaborative effort with Mumdance, out via XL Recordings today. The EP has two new songs and their instrumentals, the previously released “Shook,” and new track “1 Sec,” shared today with a dark and excellent video directed by Simon Halsall.
Novelist’s progression over the course of 2014 was undeniable—successfully transferring the excitement and energy of his radio sets and live shows onto recorded tracks. We first saw how well the combination of Mumdance’s futuristic production and Novelist’s MCing worked on “Take Time,” and they’ve only improved from there. Now, with XL Recordings behind him (who, we must not forget, released debut LPs from grime legends Dizzee Rascal and Wiley), 2015 could be Novelist’s for the taking.
