A lot of artists use their music to talk about a painful moment in their life, but it’s not that often that you come across a song that immediately makes you feel the same emotions even when you can’t relate. Somehow, Tobias Jesso Jr. is able to tap into his emotions so intensely that he can’t help but project his own feelings onto you.
Piano ballads are always quite emotional but the addition of the heartfelt lyrics and the raw emotion in Tobias’ voice make for a song that is just as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. “How Could You Babe?” will have you missing someone you have yet to meet.
This new single comes after the announcement that his new album will feature production by Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, Girls’ Chet “JR” White and Ariel Rechtshaid.
Tobias Jesso Jr. spoke about the record in a statement to his fans:
I owe the sound of the record to the great effort of everyone involved, the producers and musicians doing and playing things I couldn’t and treating the production with the same reverence I treat my songwriting. The writing will always be the most important to me; the production, playing and singing I am still figuring out. I still play a bit of guitar, but I’m mostly sticking to the piano these days.
