Royal just unleashed a flurry of free music on this snowy Monday afternoon. The D.C. beatmaker previously impressed with “Passenger,” and his debut “Cycles” EP further establishes Royal as an artist to watch.
“Devil Pt. I” features the velvety of voice Axel Mansoor, looping the chorus (“they say the devil that you know, is better than the don’t”) to great affect. “Devil Pt. II” slows and chops the same quote over a menacing synth pulse, an altogether nightmarish accompaniment to its dreamy predecessor. The glistening production on both tracks is endlessly entertaining, bringing in a host of galactic samples to create a world that is subsequently filled out through the rest of “Cycles.”
