Famous Rapper: Lil Twist
Commenter: Tyler Matt$
A few things about this song leave a very creepy first impression:
1. The heavy breathing at the start of the song
2. The cover art looks like something from a stalker's shrine
3. The fact that for about 50 seconds, dude just says "Sarah" over and over (and over)
But after that, the song gets really tragically deep. I mean, Sarah went through some shit. Credit to Tyler for his empathetic tone, but this isn't the kind of song you advertise via a promotional Lil Twist Instagram picture.
3. James Dalton
Famous Rapper: Lil Boosie
Commenter: James Dalton
If I were to draw comparisons, I'd say James Dalton's sound is similar to what it would sound like if RiFF RAFF, the white kid at your private, suburban middle school who only listens to gangsta rap, and a multitude of Garage Band bells and whistles were all thrown into a blender and mercilessly reduced to liquid.
To his credit though, James Dalton keeps it real with this line: "Now I'm on top, blowin' on the best dro / And i got a bad bitch rollin' up another O / Sip a cup of Jack and you know I got a little blow / Sike, nah I ain't with those white lines"
4. Virgo Star
Famous Rapper: French Montana
Commenter: Virgo Star
Virgo Star is not concerned about being chill when it comes to Instagram promo. He hits up a prime French Montana pic with a rapid fire delivery of comments.
It kind of sounds like if R. Kelly was trapped in that closet during his formative years with only a laptop and a shitty microphone to work with.
5. Heroin
Famous Rapper: Rick Ross
Commenter: Heroin
The nicest part about Heroin's remix of Meek Mill's "Levels" was the rapper's consideration in noting that his track is an *unofficial* remix. That's really about the only good thing happening here. That, and the fact that this guy decided to rap under the name Heroin. You know dude has like 100 lines about how dope he is.
6. Lil Tony
Famous Rapper: Young Thug
Commenter: Lil Tony
Young Thug has one of the best Instagrams in hip-hop (follow him here). He's always doing fun shit like lighting blunts with $100 bills, and out of every post he's got, Lil Tony decided to link his "Trap Remix" on the pic of Thug and his personal chef? C'mon Lil Tony. This is the spot to share a pic of what you made for lunch, or maybe link to a picture of you with someone you appreciate. This isn't the place for your "Trap Remix."
7. Problem Child
Famous Rapper: Drake
Commenter: Problem Child
For a track that the rapper claims was written off of the top of his head in class (according to the SoundCloud description), "Clout" exceeded my relatively low expectations. I have a feeling there isn't enough mention of romance or lavish living to tickle Drizzy's fancy, but you can't blame the young hopeful for trying.
8. Honcho Deleonches
Famous Rapper: Ty Dolla $ign
Commenter: Honcho Deleonches
With only one track to base our opinions off of, Honcho Deleonches manages to set himself apart from most of the struggle rappers that make the list simply in the quality of his sound. The unknown rapper has decent flow and a unique sound, and it's also respectable that the young rapper's video for "Phantom" is well made and highlights his talent as a hopeful, emerging artist.
9. Grimey Gurt
Famous Rapper: Lil Kim
Commenter: Grimey Gurt
Grimey Gurt might be talented enough to succeed as an emerging artist without Lil Kim's e-blessing via Instagram. The rapper kills it on "God Hour Freestyle," showcasing his hard-hitting delivery and some lyrical wit. Grimey Gurt's got potential—he's better than his choice of promotional strategy indicates.
10. Swaggster Boss
Famous Rapper: Lil Twist
Commenter: Swaggster Boss
Naturally, I wouldn't recommend Swaggster Boss to Lil Twist, or anyone I care about for that matter. Compared to Swaggster Boss, Lil Twist is Kendrick Lamar. The cover art is the best thing about this.
11. ObraDiablø - Bēnditiø
Famous Rapper: Chance The Rapper
Commenter: ObraDiablø - Bēnditiø
Props to ObraDiablø - Bēnditiø for the bold name choice. Using the ø is gonna make it hard for people to write about him because nobody outside of Norway remembers how to type the ø on a keyboard (it's option + o), and adding the ē is just kinda over-the-top. But maybe that'll all change once Chance The Rapper finally gets around to listening to everything from the comments section of his Instagram page.
