BC Kingdom are ready to take it to the next level.

Over the past five years they’ve been steadily honing their craft, working on their own music as well as songwriting for other artists, with their hard work getting recognized by Solange, who featured their song “Lock Up” on her Saint Heron compilation last year. They followed that up with the one two punch of “DWN4U / JEEPS,” and are now working towards an EP, which should be out early next year.

Their latest and greatest track is “COLOURS,” which we loved when we first heard it at the beginning of October, but is given an extra poignancy by the video, which you can watch below. In all of their songs, BC Kingdom effortlessly blends elements of forward-thinking electronic production with vocals that are rooted in the traditions of ’90s R&B, creating a sounds that is at once timeless and futuristic.

With their stunning, blood-red visual for “COLOURS” just released, what better time to get to know BC Kingdom a little better? We caught up with them in New York to talk about their unique sound, making songs in M.I.A.’s basement, and what “COLOURS” really means. Plus, the duo even dropped a little a cappella performance of “Lock Up.” Check it all out above.
