British duo Sylas impressed us with their first song, “Hollow,” so much so that we named them one of the best new artists of September. Now they’re back with track number two, “Shore,” which shows off another side of their songwriting talent. Where “Hollow” was willfully experimental, both in the production and the manipulated vocals, “Shore” is more straightforward, and therefore more accessible.
The vocals are hushed but clear for the first minute and a half, before some bold, ’80s feel drums come in, and power the rest of the song along through a couple of great choruses. Sylas are now two for two, and who knows, maybe their next song will reveal something new again.
