It’s rare that you come across a debut that is undeniably confident, but Espa’s ambitious 150th & Broadway EP is exactly that. Standing out in an already crowded scene, Espa’s sleek interpretation of modern R&B  is full of subtle nuances and a breathy sense of passion. With lyrics depicting longing as well as animosity directed at past acquaintances, intimacy is broadcast with a cinematic, widescreen flair.

With production from the likes of Erick Arc Elliott of Flatbush Zombies, as well as UK chart-topper Shift K3Y, there’s a broad sonic variety on the EP, despite how cohesive and fully-formed it sounds.

The influences are subtle, but clear. Espa herself has stated that Björk is one of her strongest influences, and whilst it’s not always obvious on this EP, it certainly rears its head a few times here and there. She’s already gained support from the likes of Zane Lowe, and there’s no doubt that the endorsements will continue to come. Listen to the premiere of her 105th & Broadway EP below, and download the EP for free here.
