This past summer, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine sold their Beats headphone company to Apple for several billion dollars. Last year, the pair announced a $70 million donation to the University of Southern California. The money was used to found a four-year bachelor’s degree that would prepare students for a rapidly changing music industry. The program’s name: the USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology, and the Business of Innovation.

The school accepts 25-30 students a year, and its inaugural class is halfway through their first semester. Courses involve computer science, audio production, graphic design, other classes based in creativity and innovation. One student currently enrolled told HYPETRAK

We see Jimmy and Dre, as we affectionately like to call them, from time to time. In late August, we went on a “field trip” to Jimmy’s home for a backyard BBQ where we met with him, Dr. Dre, will.i.am, and others…we have access to top-of-the-line 3D printers, laser cutters, industry-grade software, and a comprehensive fabrication workshop – everything we could possibly ask for.

You can learn more about the program on their website.
