London based artist Jones has all the right names backing her, but she also has the music to match. She’s been working with XL Recordings’ in-house producer Rodaigh McDonald (The xx, King Krule, How To Dress Well) and Jai Paul’s brother Anup (who recently appeared on “So Good” with Nao), and her first song “Deep” is as good as it gets.
It’s a lush pop song in the vein of Solange’s “Losing You,” relaxing and enjoyable to listen to even as it is tinged with a certain nostalgic sadness, while the production helps elevate Jones’ vocals, sweeping them forward in shimmering layers at one moment, then drawing back to just the drum beat the next.
