The Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour Ends in a Tie (Kind Of)

On the final night of the Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour, the guys declare it all a tie.

An interactive tour with two artists “competing” on stage and fans voting for the winner seemed like a great idea—a little American Idol-ish, but fun. This was the concept behind the Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour, and they kicked off the voting app and the tour in August. Since then, the results have been suspiciously close.

Last night was the last stop of the Drake vs. Lil Wayne Tour, and the set-up was perfect—maybe too perfect. The show was on Lil Wayne’s birthday, in Houston (Drake’s second home), and the score was tied, 17 to 17. This would be the decider.

But instead of letting fans vote to declare a winner, they called it a tie. This is how it went down:

In my personal opinion, it’s a little disappointing. The purpose of letting fans interact by downloading an app and voting is defeated if you take the results into your own hands. This tour opened up the door for technology-driven interaction in the live music space, and before letting us walk through, it slammed the door shut again. But shit, I guess the end goal is to entertain fans, and Drake and Wayne certainly did that.

Catch Drake vs. Wayne again next year, after both artists release albums. It will kick off in Houston, and the score will be 17 to 17. Sounds like a good set-up. Somewhere, someone is probably already working on an epic script.
