Taking a page from the Drake handbook, Wiz Khalifa jumps on Detroit up-and-comer Dej Loaf’s “Try Me,” a song that’s been buzzing on the streets for the past month, and releases an official remix.
Though many will be hearing Dej’s name for the first time today, the high profile remix wasn’t totally unpredictable. As pointed out by Complex, Drizzy himself used one of the lines from “Try Me” (“Love wearing black you should see my closet…”) as an Instagram caption four days ago, and Dej’s numbers have been climbing steadily since.
The DDS-produced record is a low-key, melodic banger laced with a hook that will likely stick in your head for days. Wiz hops in around the 2:20 mark and floats over the synth-heavy instrumental with a flow reminiscent of his come-up days, making for a smooth collaboration that will surely bring further attention to the fast-moving original.
