After releasing his debut mixtape WinterSpringSummerFall earlier this year and taking a short hiatus, Boots, the producer who worked on Beyoncé’s 2013 self-titled album, is back with a new song. As with his other releases, “Mercy” showcases Boots’ wide range of influences and fluid production skills as it seamlessly morphs from a subdued piano-backed elegy of sorts to an abrasive, electric guitar-heavy song a little over halfway through.
