After releasing his Mainstream Music mixtape in May, Taylor Bennett solidified his place in rap—not just as Chance The Rapper’s younger brother, but as a formidable artist in his own right. Recently, he sat down with XXL and shared a few things about himself, his aspirations, his style, and more.
On top of that, Bennett also shared a new track hot on the heels of Mainstream Music titled “Hatin’,” which calls out his haters over a warbling beat. Check out a few highlights from the XXL interview, and listen to “Hatin’,” below.

On what he’s trying to do with his music:
I am trying to save my city. And it’s not just me. It’s my whole city, it’s my whole generation.
His goal in hip-hop:
I’m just gonna be me. That’s why my name is Taylor Bennett. I don’t have a stage name or anything like that because when you listen to my music, you get 100 percent of me. […] There’s only one me. That’s how I am going to change the rap game, I am coming for it.
