Los Angeles born singer Ryn Weaver burst onto the scene—seemingly out of nowhere—a month ago with her debut single, “OctaHate.” It was mesmerizing, vibrant, and insanely catchy, but compelling for reasons beyond strictly its sonic appeal.

When it was revealed that she was working with a team consisting of Benny Blanco, Cashmere Cat, Charli XCX, and Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos, things started to make a little more sense. According to an extensive article on Buzzfeed, the 21-year-old rising star had been releasing music under her real name, Aryn Wüthrich, prior to connecting with Benny, but now her career is beginning to take on a life of its own.

Today, Ryn returns with her second official single, “Promises,” and it’s just as impressive as her first. Premiered by Fader, the powerful record is the title track off her upcoming EP, fueled by warm synths and a booming hook in which she chants, “Never meant to break my own promises.” Ryn is quickly developing a voice and persona all her own, and if her first two anthemic hits are any indication of where she’s headed, it might be best to get familiar with her sooner rather than later.
