After the release of her highly acclaimed Z album, TDE songstress SZA reappears today with some new material. “Moodring” will appear on Love the Free II, a mixtape curated by Brooklyn’s Kitty Cash. The mix will also include new material from Bipolar Sunshine, Yuna, and Dev Hynes. The mixtape is slated to drop July 22.
“Moodring,” produced by Felix Snow, is filled with twinkling synths that bounce off the vocals’ heavy reverb to create a whirlwind of echoes. SZA told Billboard “I wrote ‘Moodring’ the night I opened for Coldplay. I hadn’t slept in two and half days due to anxiety. After the show, I drank every bottle of champagne Chris Martin [and] the band gave us that night, with Thundercat and my band. Great fucking time.”
