Becky Hill might be a new name to you, but she has been steadily gaining a buzz for herself since her appearance on The Voice UK in 2012. She recently lent her distinctive vocals to tracks with Rudimental and Wilkinson, but now she is ready to embark on her solo career. Hill’s first effort is “Caution To The Wind,” an upbeat track with a bright glockenspiel carrying the beat. The track was co-written and produced by Two Inch Punch, who is one-half of Benzel and known for his work with Jessie Ware’s and Sam Smith. With credentials like that, a voice like hers, and a strong introduction with “Caution To The Wind,” Becky is in great position to be the next big UK vocalist to break in a major way.

What are you biggest musical influences?
My biggest influences are Passion Pit, Bon Iver, Lauryn Hill, SBTRKT, Basement Jaxx, Ben Howard, Ellie Goulding, and Robyn.

What is your songwriting process?
It changes regularly but I usually, like, write songs linearly starting with verse then to pre-chorus then to chorus, et cetera telling a story. I usually like to do melodies before lyrics but that changes with each track.

You are a big fan of ’90s pop music—who are some of your favorites?
I always liked ’90s garage like “Movin’ Too Fast” and “Closer Than Close!” Me, my mum, and sister also played a lot of the Backstreet Boys [Laughs].

You have worked with Rudimental, Wilkinson, and Oliver Heldens in the past with great success. How does it feel to be putting out a solo record?
A massive relief! It’s nice to be given the chance to do this by myself as well as having had success through other artists.

What made you want to use idioms as the foundation for “Caution to the Wind?”
Writer’s block! I didn’t know what to write about but had the phrase, ‘”Throw caution to the wind” in my head. I found out that kind of phrase is an idiom, found an idiom website, and “Caution To The Wind” was born!
