10. Gene The Southern Child - "Smackman"

"Smackman," from Gene The Southern Child's free album Southern Meridian is hard as hell, and "Dope Man" and "Flo Town" are pretty awesome. There's a lot going on here influence-wise—Gene's album feels rooted in Southern hip-hop, but draws influences from some of the dark midwest hip-hop (MC Breed, Brotha Lynch Hung) from the late '90s/early 2000s too.

It's a fascinating mix; it doesn't sound dated, but it also doesn't sound modern, like a time warp with proper 2014 mixing and mastering. Download the whole album, produced by Parallel Thought, here.

11. Can U Dance's (Jackmaster x Oneman) Essential Mix Live From Glastonbury

Rather than the usual studio recorded effort, Jackmaster and Oneman's Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 comes live from Glastonbury. It's an eccentric, feel-good collection of songs from Joy Orbison, Prince, The Streets, and more.

12. Sicko Mobb - "Lonely"

Lil Ceno and Lil Trav of Sicko Mobb urge listeners not to trust too easily in their remix of the late Speaker Knockerz's "Lonely."
