We’re barely a week removed from DJ Rashad leaving this earth, and it was hard to even listen to music that wasn’t his or from the Chicago footwork scene. The world keeps spinning, and of course I was able to get my mittens on a bunch of new bits… but it wasn’t easy. Rest in peace Rashad, you live through those of us who were touched by your music. Here are this week’s best in electronic music.
Mat Zo – “Real Life”
Mat Zo’s free tune phase is yielding some great material.
Ta-Ku – “Knightime”
Ta-Ku’s bootleg of Disclosure’s “Help Me Lose My Mind” lives on as a beautiful instrumental, paying homage to Chilly Gonzales.
Martyn & Four Tet – “Glassbeadgames (8 Hours at Fabric Dub)”
Eight minutes in heaven.
Bok Bok – “Howard”
Loving this blend of yesteryear and right now.
StéLouse – “Joyride”
StéLouse (stay loose) blends bright melodies with a Jersey club thump, making this “Joyride” a win.
Cashmere Cat – “Wedding Bells (Lazerdisk Bootleg)”
Ill blend of 16-bit waves and Cashmere’s signature sonics. Lazerdisk killed this one.
Basement Jaxx – “Unicorn”
This duo is back like they never left with the first taste from their forthcoming LP.
Bill Withers – “Ain’t No Sunshine (Lido Remix)”
Lido has a Pelican Fly EP on the way, and continues to push out these refreshing remixes.
Madeaux ft. Fifi Rong – “Chakra”
This guy might be one of the most well-rounded electronic producers out there.
Boiler Room Tribute to DJ Rashad
Boiler Room held a special tribute to DJ Rashad earlier this week, with Ikonika, DJ Oneman, Addison Groove, and Kode9 hitting the decks to bring you the sounds of footwork, from Rashad as well as the roots of the scene in general. Really exciting stuff if you’re unfamiliar with the sound.

Djemba Djemba – “That Money”
This week’s credits roll to a number that never got vocaled, but ends up in our possession. So beautiful.
