When we first heard Movement’s “Us” it wasn’t clear if they would be yet another solid player in the crowded game of alt-R&B or something more. Clearly, they are something much more, and this self-titled EP brings elements from all over the place to the table, tying them together with a loping groove and pulsating energy.
We had already heard (and been impressed by) “Like Lust” and “Ivory,” and the two new tracks are just as good, with “5:57” boasting a grittier edge and the subtle “Control You” finishing the EP off in bewitching fashion. Extra production and mixing comes from The Weekend’s go-to producer, Illangelo.
