Hejira - "Dancing Around Control (Kwes Rework)"

None

Hejira’s “Dancing Around Control” is a lovely little piece of dirty rock on its own. But Kwes, the British producer ascending music’s ladder with a deft ear and panoramic range of influences, has found the spaces between Hejira’s haunting anthem and created something in his own image—some lovely dirty rock of a different, more abstract design.

Fluttering synths and pitch-shifted vocals confront a big growling bass in Kwes’ rework. The song stops and starts like a scratched record, but the effect is truly Kwestian—that is to say, magnificent. Kwes recently revealed a desire to remain more of a producer than performer, and this is yet another argument that we should let the 26-year-old do whatever the hell he wants.
