Young Thug Discusses Label Status Rumors, His Unique Style, and Recent Arrest.

Young Thug was one of the many artists who stopped by The FADER FORT during SXSW this year, and after his performance Fader caught up with the rapper for a quick interview. One of the main subjects he discussed was his current label status, which has been the topic of many conflicting reports. Last month in a Mass Appeal piece, Thug stated he had left Brick Squad and signed with Cash Money Records, but then quickly after a rep for Birdman denied the report. Now, Thug gives some sort of update on all this by stating he is “Richgang” and though Gucci Mane helped him a lot in his career, he is no longer with Gucci’s Brick Squad Records.

Thug also spoke about his upcoming collaboration with Rich Homie Quan titled Young Quan and Rich Homie Thug, his reaction to Nicki Minaj’s surprise remix of his “Danny Glover” – of which he said he “could’ve died” when he heard it – and what he’s learned about the industry from Birdman so far. He also discussed his unique style, saying he’s always been well-dressed but refused to give up the names of the stores he shops at. As for his recent arrest, Thug simply stated that the cops must have had it out for him because he wouldn’t have ever done donuts with rims as expensive as the ones he has. Fair enough.
