Florida is a weird state. It just is. Every time you hear a story about a naked man biting people's faces off or driving through a neighborhood with a decapitated body hanging out of the passenger window, you can safely bet that it happened in Florida. There's even a Twitter account dedicated to it. But hey, at least things in Florida area always interesting.

There are swamps, drugs, beaches, retirement communities, prostitutes, clubs, farms, and strip malls, sometimes all within walking distance, and it makes for an interesting environment. As you can imagine, the music that comes from this place also has a very particular vibe. While Florida's rock scene may be a few years behind the times, there have always been interesting things happening in the hip-hop world. Local scenes bubble up in Tampa and Miami in cycles, and every few years you get some major breakout hits. But a lot of the time, those hits stay in Florida. They dominate the clubs and local radio stations, but outside the state, a lot of people never get to hear them. You might be familiar with a few of these, but here are 17 great Florida rap songs that you probably don't know.

1.

2. Tae Bae Bae - "Snatchin"

3. Rated R - "In here Ta Nite"

4. Militant Military - "All Da Way Live"

In 2008, this song was all over Tampa radio. The rest of the world didn't catch on. The rest of the world missed out. The group was Soljah, Ms. Williams, A-MP, State, Militia, and J.O. and they had local buzz going years ago, even winning Best Rap Group/Duo at the 2008 Tampa Bay Hip-Hop Awards. We haven't heard from them since, but "All Da Way Live" is still a Tampa classic. You can even hear it referenced in Robb Bank$ latest, "All The Way Live." Also, the video is amazing.

5. MC Nas-D & DJ Freaky Fred - "It's My Cadillac (Got That Bass)"

6. DJ Khaled ft. Ball Greezy, Ace Hood, and Brisco - "I'm The Shit"

7. Denzel Curry ft. Yung Simmie & Robb Bank$ - "Threatz"

Pigeons and Planes Placeholder

8. Brisco ft. Lil Wayne - "On The Wall"

9. Young Breed ft. Masspike Miles - "Night & Day"

As a member of Rick Ross's Triple C's crew, Young Breed was often put on the backburner. That hasn't stopped him from putting out quality material over the past couple years though. He's got cookout anthems like "Ice On" and more intense cuts like "Got The Juice," but "Night & Day" is a smart, reflective take on the hustler lifestyle that so many Florida rappers glorify. And it's proof that even high intensity rappers like Young Breed sound good next to a breezy hook.

10. Trick Daddy - "Ho But You Can't Help It"

11. Tay Dizm ft. T. Pain and Rick Ross - "Beam Me Up"

Back in 2008, T-Pain had the whole game in a cobra clutch, with a hit-making midas touch that seemed unstoppable. So when Tay Dizm, the flagship artist of T-Pain's Nappy Boy label, released his debut single 'Beam Me Up' (which featured a hook from Pain and a verse from Rick Ross), it seemed like he was posed for rap stardom as well. While that wasn't exactly the end result, "Beam Me Up" definitely deserved more mainstream success.

12. Billy Blue - "Riders and Sliders"

13. Luke ft. Cam'ron and Pitbull - "Suck This D***"

Here's one that no one saw coming. 2 Live Crew co-founder, former Miami Mayoral candidate, and current high school football coach Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell teaming up with leader of The Diplomats, Harlem's hometown hero, and as of recent, trailblazing cape enthusiast, Cameron "Cam'ron" Giles. Oh, and Pitbull. It's not completley clear when this track was recorded, but around 1998 would be a good educated guess.

14. stic.man ft. Crystal Johnson - "Traffic Jam"

As one half of dead prez, Tallahassee emcee stic.man is known for his politically charged content, usually delivered in an abrasive fashion. So for stic.man's solo album, Manhood (released in 2007), he slowed things down and set his sights on a more relaxed and jazzy sound. One of the standout tracks from that album was "Traffic Jam," a melodic ode to the frustrating pace of everyday life. And on an interesting note, four years later Kendrick Lamar borrowed stic.man's infectious hook for "Ab-Soul's Outro," the second to last track on Section.80.

15. No Good - "Ballin' Boy"

This one reaches back a bit further into history. No Good (previously known as No Good But So Good), was a Miami rap duo who started out as backup dancers for Luke Campbell.

16. Schife ft. Shayne - "All About The Money"

Schife is primarly known as a producer who works with Ace Hood and other local Miami rappers, but he also has made his fair share of work in the spotlight. Aside from laying hooks down for Khaled posse cuts, Schife also crafted "All About The Money," an anthemic banger produced by The Inkredibles. A short time later, the same beat would find itself on Pusha T's Fear of God mixtape, in the form of "I Still Wanna Rock" with Rick Ross and Ab Liva.

17. Brianna Perry - "Marilyn Monroe"

At only 22 years old, Brianna Perry has already had a long and storied career in the Florida rap scene. In 2002 Brianna became the youngest signee to Missy Elliott's label, The Goldmine Inc, and worked consistently with both Elliott and Timbaland. Brianna was also closely affiliated to Slip-n-Slide Records, the house that Trick Daddy and Trina built. Over the past few years, Brianna has been consistenttly releasing mixtape after mixtape, and the Coodie & Chike visuals for one of her more recent records, "Marilyn Monroe," showcases her star potential.

18. GhostWridah - "I'm On"

Backed by a lush and soulful soundbed, Miami's own GhostWridah spits triumphant verses on "I'm On," reminiscent of Thank Me Later era Drizzy. For all those who still insist that southern emcees are lacking in lyrical dexterity, check GhostWridah's witty metaphors and slick delivery.
