Watch Pussy Riot Make Their First U.S. Television Appearance on the Colbert Report

Watch Pussy Riot make their first appearance on U.S. television on the Colbert Report.

It’s been a little over a month since Pussy Riot members Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova were freed from Russian prison. Since being granted amnesty, the two have been launched into a media whirlwind with interview after interview, further cementing their status as one of the most well-known former political prisoners in the world. Just ahead of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, Pussy Riot have traveled to the U.S. to appear at Amnesty International’s Bring Human Rights Home concert at the Barclays Center Wednesday where they’ll be introduced by Madonna.

But before that, the two stopped by the Colbert Report Tuesday night along with their translator for their first ever U.S. television appearance. And it went considerably better than their recent interview on Irish TV—thankfully, no one patronizingly referred to them as “girls.” They matched Stephen Colbert joke for joke and, in typical Pussy Riot fashion, spared no moment to rip both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian government a new one. They also invited Colbert to become an honorary member of Pussy Riot on one highly important condition.

Watch the second half of the interview below.
