The first ever track that Manchester singer and producer Oceaán put up on Soundcloud was the incredibly smooth “Need U,” a modern R&B song in the vein of How To Dress Well. Now he’s back, and starting 2014 on a high note by releasing his second song and announcing a debut EP, due out March 31.
“To Lose” has us excited for the EP, as it takes the delicate, melodic elements of “Need U” but focuses and sharpens them, with the bass hitting harder and the vocals cutting deeper. With a slow-building, elegant beauty and the kind of vocal manipulations that will remind many listeners of James Blake, Oceaán has an extremely bright future ahead of him.
Oceaán’s self-titled debut EP will be out March 31 on Chess Club Records.
