LCD Soundsystem's Final Concert To Be Released In Full, James Murphy Finds Commercial Dance Music "Repellent"

Read about LCD Soundsystem's upcoming vinyl box set "The Long Goodbye," and James Murphy's opinion on today's dance music.

After 2012’s concert documentary Shut Up and Play the Hits, James Murphy will now be releasing another piece of memorabilia tied to LCD Soundsystem’s epic final show at Madison Square Garden. The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden is a five-piece vinyl box set, packed with every minute of the band’s farewell performance, produced by Murphy himself. The vinyl release will be available in certain stores on Record Store Day, April 19, and will see a digital release a month later on May 19. Check out the entire track-listing for the project below, and watch the live MSG performance of “Losing My Edge” above.

Vinyl enthusiasts who are considering getting that five-piece box set should also know about Universal’s Respect The Classic’s campaign, which re-issues classic hip-hop records on vinyl that have been out of print for years. These are no ordinary reissues though, instead coming with special packaging, picture discs, colored discs, and other nice flourishes. You can see which records have been re-issued and which are on the way on the Respect The Classics website here.

In other James Murphy news: yesterday, the dance music aficionado announced that he finds the state of today’s commercial dance music, “repellent. It makes me want to vomit.” Interviewed during a session for Red Bull Music Academy, Murphy went on to say, “I just don’t like it, it’s not for me but it’s also not designed for me. I’m old and it’s very maximalist and I’m not a maximalist guy. I’m sure there’s great stuff happening but it’s just not reaching me and it probably shouldn’t.” Shots. Fired. Maybe Murphy should release another LCD album just to show how everyone how it’s done? We’ll keep our fingers crossed.
