Channeling Prince without sounding goofy is pretty difficult, but somehow New York’s Gordon Voidwell pulls it off. With a modern spin on that retro, funky, soulful sound, an abundance of falsetto, and consistently colorful production, Bad Études offers what Prince has been withholding from us in spades. At almost 50 minutes, it’s a pretty lengthy listen, but there’s more than enough throughout this project to keep things entertaining.
