R&B-tinged pop music has evolved into such a cluttered sub-genre over the last two years, it’s hard to parse through it all. At Pigeons & Planes, we’re impressed by many but only a select few genuinely excite us. There’s no question that Erik Hassle is one them. From “Talk About It” to his SOHN-produced “Pathetic,” we’ve grown to love Hassle’s reinvention, which he describes as one born from heartbreak. With “Ready For You,” the newest taste of his forthcoming EP Somebody’s Party, we see a more restrained, minimalist side to Hassle’s sound. It’s not as larger than life as his previous work but no less powerful, slowly building into a gorgeously held falsetto in the chorus.

Of the song Hassle tells VMAN, “It is about that stupid phone call that you would have been better off not having.” Think of it as his “Marvins Room” sans the woman on the other end of the line.

Stream “Ready For You” below. His Somebody’s Party EP will be released March 4.
