The Grammys are fast-approaching, and one of the most highly anticipated categories of the night is Best New Artist. This year, both Kendrick Lamar and James Blake are up for the award—against Ed Sheeran, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Kacey Musgraves. And to celebrate the special nomination, the Grammys partnered with for a feature called “Day In the Life” in which each nominee gives fans a glimpse into their creative process and lives as musicians. For Kendrick’s feature, he speaks about the daily grind and how being on tour with Kanye West for the majority of 2013’s end didn’t prevent him from logging hours upon hours of studio time. And while he doesn’t go so far as to confirm he’s recording the follow-up to good kid m.A.A.d city, Kendrick makes it very clear he’s hard at work on something.

For James Blake’s feature, he talks about how living in London provides constant inspiration for his music. He also reflects on the evolution of his career from standing in the back of a club called Plastic People watching other DJs perform to now being center stage himself at that same club.

Watch Kendrick’s “Day In the Life” above and James Blake’s below. The Grammys air Sunday, January 26.
