ASTR

NYC-based duo ASTR have their eyes set on two distinct areas at once, and they’re successfully achieving both. With one foot approaching the dancefloor, and the other the dark bar in the corner, ASTR’s chunky synths bounce around skittering hi-hats and house-inflected thuds like a drunk Purity Ring. The swirling of voices on their latest track, “Blue Hawaii,” finds the duo working at their own frenzied peak. Zoe Silverman’s sleepily seductive vocals are immediately effective, but it’s Adam Pallin’s production that elevates “Blue Hawaii” so high.
