This morning the nominees for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced, and Pigeons & Planes kept a close eye on the two prestigious music categories. With Despicable Me 2 scoring a nomination for Best Animated Film, Pharrell’s joyful, infectious “Happy” from the film also received a nomination for Best Original Song capping off what was an incredible 2013 for the music mogul. Her, the quasi-futuristic story of a man who falls in love with an operating system, was named a contender for Best Picture. And the film’s excellent music was also recognized with Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and composer Owen Pallett picking up a nomination for Best Original Score and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O nominated for Best Original Song for “The Moon Song.” See a full list of the nominees here.
The Academy Awards will air March 2nd. Hear all three nominated pieces below.
