The first single from Alison Valentine’s debut EP is a glittering, glistening, nu-disco concoction, almost too sweet to palette, but with a chorus that will have you quickly coming back for more. Like Sebastien Tellier without any of the sly French sexuality or like a more upbeat “Nightcall,” Valentine’s “Curious” is powered along by a funky beat but succeeds because of the vocals. Alongside singing and songwriting Alison “is a fleuriste, having co-founded 11×11, a New York flower design company making custom creations for clients like Hermes, Oscar De la Renta, and Yoko Ono.” A woman of many talents indeed.
