Having crafted one of the finest, unexpected pop gems of the year with “Talk About It,” Erik Hassle seems poised for a stellar 2014. Before we get too ahead of ourselves, there’s still life yet to be squeezed from the song that announced Hassle’s reemergence and introduced him to new fans alike.
Nashville trio Basecamp’s remix is a wonderful merging of Hassle’s original with the group’s glitchy, alt-R&B production, adding a warmly skittering backdrop that seems as well-suited for Hassle’s vocals as the original’s backdrop. With the help of Toronto producer Deebs, “Talk About It” becomes a syrupy dirge, appropriately moody without loosing the energy of Hassle’s dynamic performance.
