Teaming up with Russian producer BMB., GoldLink bounces off the warm, snare-filled beat with his elastic flow, providing a window into the world in which he was raised and the sort of attitude it cultivates. It’s an exhilarating scattershot of boasts, observations of harsh realities, and the ambitions that rise in spite of obstacles. “Playah” expands the breadth of GoldLink’s vision, marrying his impressive technical ability with a pointed social awareness (and intriguing ways of expressing his worldviews) that feels vibrant and organically conscious, never preachy.
