For their skittering, melancholic single “Free,” duo Ryan Vail have crafted a fitting video, an ironic reflection of the lyric “We used to be one/But now I’m free.” “Free” follows the travels of a lone woman, free in the sense that she answers to no particular master, but clearly hounded in her journeys by a pervasive sense of isolation. It’s a reminder of the tenuous line between freedom and lonesome wandering, a particularly poetic visualization of the group’s decidedly subtle music.
