In the spirit of giving, Vic Mensa let loose “Children of the Sun” yesterday, an unreleased song from 2010 produced by Thelonious Martin. Considering the rapper’s age at the time of its creation (16 or 17 years-old, depending on when in the year it was recorded) and all of the attention that has since been paid to his SAVEMONEY crew in the wake of the rise and dissolution of his old group Kids These Days and the explosive ascent of running mate Chance the Rapper, “Children of the Sun” provides a fascinating window into the prodigious talent Vic has wielded for years. A glimpse of what’s been brewing in the Windy City for years.
