There is something so beautifully simple about the music Marika Hackman produces. Relying on minimal instrumentation and instead leading with her unique, retro-tinged vocals, Hackman understands how to evoke an emotion without unnecessarily overloading the song. However, on “Cinnamon,” Hackman impressively displays that when she does choose to supplement her songs with more than just her guitar, she can do so effectively. With heavy, slightly ominous percussion and guitar progressions the track is certainly different from what we heard on That Iron Taste, but in a good way. The song will be included on her upcoming Sugar Blind EP, due out December 9.
