Hip-hop has always thrived on experimentation. Rappers consistently create new words or pronounce existing ones differently to fit the flow of their verse. They manifest eccentric personas as crucial to their overall aesthetic as their actual sound is. We’ve seen this reach a peak this past year, thanks to artists like Future, Young Thug, 2 Chainz and even Lil’ B, who have all helped to push the boundaries of what we consider “out there” in hip-hop. It’s because of this that a new artist like Lizzo can effectively capture our interest with a song as quirky and creative as “Batches & Cookies.” But it’s also because of this influx of innovation in hip-hop that someone like Lizzo can be signed by a label outside of the traditional rap realm—Totally Gross National Product—whose roster is curated by Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.
“Batches & Cookies” is the first offering off her upcoming album, LIZZOBANGERS, with the label and we’re happy to premiere the video for the song here at P&P. Lizzo will set out on tour with Har Mar Superstar this fall, and you can find their full schedule below.
