Kings of Leon Shares "Supersoaker" Video, Debut "Wait For Me"

Seeking to reaffirm the cautious hope that they’ve come back from the edge of corporate skullduggery, Kings of Leon continued their return to form today with a double dose of new material. The first is a video for the previously released “Supersoaker,” and the second is “Wait For Me,” a new track off their forthcoming Mechanical Bull. Together, the two have made me a believer once more. The respective sound and style of the song and video are a true return to form. As one Youtube user gleaned, “they’re not mean and drunk anymore, they’re having fun!”

The video for “Supersoaker” features the band playing the song in a retro 70’s-style drive in, full of warm colors and filters that make it an almost passive viewing experience as the tones and faces wash over you. It’s probably the most explicit reference to the band rediscovering the original Southern rock charisma that made them so much fun to listen to before what we can now refer to as the dark ages.

“Wait For Me,” however, is today’s crown jewel. It’s a dusty love song that shimmers and shakes like light bouncing off water when frontman Caleb Followill croons for us, “wait for me, wait for me, it’s all better now.” And it is! Welcome back, Kings of Leon. We have missed you.

The band will be featured on American Express Unstaged this friday, August 9th to continue promoting Mechanical Bull. The album drops in September.
