The Other "Otherside": Seattle's Underground Rap Scene

An in-depth look into Seattle's underground rap scene.

1. Avatar Darko

Born in Estonia before immigrating to Seattle and settling in the historically black Central District neighborhood with his family, Avatar Darko came up with connections to both the Russian mob and the C.D.’s notorious Deuce-8 gang. With an extensive background in both rapping and trapping thanks to his diverse, tough upbringing and big-name production from the likes of Araabmuzik, Southside, Sledgren and THC, Darko spits gangster movie-worthy street tales that are much closer to reality than a lot of your average LiveMixtapes posters. His Vampsterdam joint effort with Nacho Picasso has been getting plenty of looks lately, and while the "skinny lil' Russian kid / voice doesn’t match my looks" is indeed white, it’s not exactly the shade of white that sells on iTunes and Billboard charts.
