Lucius are one of those Brooklyn bands that feel like they’ve just been around since I moved here two years ago. But time has a way of sharpening and focusing young bands in a way that often yields surprising results, something that their latest single “Hey Doreen” reveals from the first notes. Driven by the twin vocals of Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, the previously languid sound has been powered up until it feels more soulful. Boosted by jilted piano lines and a recently inked deal with local, highly-respected indie label Mom + Pop, the first single seems like a promising next step for the quintet. Their debut album Wildewoman will be released through Mom + Pop on October 15.
