This is something pretty special. Hockeysmith are sisters Georgie and Annie from the UK, and although their backstory is interesting (the two of them live in a caravan park in Cornwall where they write and record their music), let nothing distract you from the slowly unfurling beauty of their rather oddly named debut single “Let’s Bang.”
The track moves forward in fits and starts, opening with crystalline vocals which drop away suddenly, before a web of reverb drenched melodies rise up and snatches of hazy vocals float in and out like fragments of distant memories. Rarely has a seven minute long song passed so quickly, and it’s testament to the sisters’ ability to deftly weave together guitar, electronics, and their own delicate vocals.
